Good question! Well, we’ve switched over to Wordpress, which means a new cleaner, easy to update, easy to backup, easy to navigate website that woks better in more browsers and operating systems, including your mobile devices! Click through to read on….
(now it hasn’t been tested thoroughly yet, and i’m sure we’ll find glitches here and there in the beginning, but we’ll get there with time).
The problem we had with the old site was that it was just a real big pain in the a$$ to update on the back end, and on the front end with new content. The way this new site is setup allows for much speedier updates by more than just our webmaster. We’re also now making better use of some of the cloud services provided by Google: Picasa Web Albums, Google Calendar, Google Docs.
There is also now a space for you to comment on blog posts and give your feedback.
The biggest thing of all the improvements really is just the usability from the angle of the people keeping it up to date. Having to resize images and code them into the pages on the old site was just far too complex and fiddly for most people, and really too time consuming for our webmaster (who does all of this work out of the goodness of his heart!) – with this new site it’s now incredibly simple and easy to post a new story, complete with images, and a link to our collaborative photo galleries on Google Picasa.
One more thing to note here is that this site is by no means complete, the GATR branding has yet to be implemented properly into the colors, logo, page header etc. This will happen over the coming weeks. The important thing for now is that the site is up running and functional.
Keep an eye out for the aesthetic design changes over the coming weeks (erm, though probably months. lol) – and now that the new site is up, we’ll soon be updating you with some new posts, one on the GATR FATS trip, and one with the time trial results from the recent festival at Tribble Mill.
Thanks for your continued support fellow GATR’s!
