Any active GATR member is eligible for nomination. You can nominate any member you’d like and you can even nominate yourself, and frankly I encourage that.
The by-laws state that there are 7 positions on the BOD. You’ve got the usual 4 suspects like: Prez, VP, Secretary, and Treasurer. And those are quite necessary and important, but the remaining 3 can get fun and creative. In fact, my recommendation will be to make those positions MUCH MORE FUN next year. It’ll be up to the new board to decide what those positions are but if you’re thinking about this for yourself, think of positions like: social director, fund raising coordinator for things like NAMI or TfK or some other good cause, Ride Director, Marketing Director, Events Organizer, or
Webmaster, etc.
What the other 4 positions are supposed to do:
- President (direct and preside the board, general direction and priorities for the chapter for the year, liaison between GATR and the land manager, runs chapter meetings, attend SORBA Board meetings, etc )
- VP (make sure the president stays on track, does the real work of the board, peacekeeper, work parties, does everything the Pres. does in his/her absence, makes sure the BOD remains effective, etc.)
- Treasurer (keeps track of GATR’s ever growing finances!)
- Secretary (tirelessly, accurately, and responsibly keeps track of ALL that goes on in BOD and Chapter meetings)
We have more active members right now than we have ever had! We have more miles than we ever have, gaining about 7 miles so far this year! We have 6 more miles being rough cut in the next week :D ! We have more racers with our jerseys ( thanks Bob ) at races than any other club! We have more hits on our website ( thanks James ) than ever before! And we have more members at our meetings now than we ever have! GATR has accomplished a lot in the past 4 years and it’s time to move to the next stage of our development. This new BOD can do that. If you’ve ever thought about doing this type of work, you couldn’t pick a more exciting and opportune time.
