Youth Mountain Biking Group

Wants you to come play in the dirt with us.

Who are we:

We are a bunch of kids that love to ride and have fun. (Parents are encouraged to ride with us)

Where do we meet:

We meet at Harbins Park  – 2995 Luke Edwards Road, Dacula, GA 30019

When do we meet:

We meet the First Saturday of each month at 10:30 AM
and the Third Sunday of each month at 2:00 PM

Note: the first ride will be Sunday, October 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Harbins Park.

Everyone is welcome to ride with us. Groups are formed based on skill and number of participants.   The club meets year round; we only cancel rides for bad weather. So come on out and join us for some fun and socialization with other kids that like to ride.

• Time Trial – fund raiser: 10:30a-12p
• Food – BBQ + pot luck lunch 12-1p

• Swap meet: all day

We need volunteers to help with these events.  Please post on the forum thread if you are willing to lend a hand.

Also, starting on Tuesday, April 12th Apalachee Cycles will sponsor a weekly group ride at Harbins Park.  Ready to Ride at 6:30 p.m.

Apalachee Cycle

Meet at the trailhead at 10:30 am  (make sure you pack something to eat on the trail).
Bring your own tasty beverage for after the ride.  The group ride will include approx. 15 miles of great singletrack in Rabun county.  This will be a moderately difficult ride with several long climbs and creek crossings.

Directions: White Twister and the Stonewall Falls biking loops are located
approximately 2 miles south of Tiger on Hwy 441 South. Turn onto USFS
road #20 at the beige metal building and go 1-1/4 mile on the gravel
road. Turn right at the intersection, go 50 yards and park in the
parking area. The Stonewall Falls loop (about 11 miles) starts by continuing past the
parking lot and following the signs. The White Twister (about 4.5 miles) starts
approximately 40 yards prior to the last turn for the parking area (on
your left as you are driving in).

GATR Group Ride Schedule

So far the word we’re getting back from the parks people is that there is simply not enough demand for night riding in Gwinnett County parks to warrant schedulng more night riding dates on the calendar.

If you want to see more night rides then you can do two things to make it happen:

1. Sign up for the current schedule of nights rides on the GCPR website
2. Email Kim Shealy and tell her that you want more night riding dates on the calendar

Also; If you think that the $5 per ride fee is too much, let GCPR know this by emailing Kim Shealy.

We have it on good faith from GCPR that if there is demand for the night rides, then there can be more night riding. Email her and let her know your thoughts.

You MUST be registered to participate and anyone not registered will be turned away. County officials will be in attendance to make sure everyone signs a waiver.

The cost is $5 per ride for Gwinnett Residents.
For out-of-county residents, the fee is $10 per ride.

The cost is to cover staff and 70% of the fees come back to GATR.

The annual GATR Festival will be on Saturday, October 16th 2010 @ Tribble Mill Park in Grayson, GA

The first Georgia Bike Summit will bring together advocates, business leaders, on-road and off-road recreational cyclists and commuters, elected officials and staff from across Georgia to meet in a state-wide forum, setting the stage for bicycling gains. We will network, collaborate, educate, and empower advocates and attendees; identify common issues in our local communities; and set priorities for Georgia Bikes in 2011.

Social

To help bicyclists from around the state build connections and strengthen ties, the summit attendees will be encouraged to attend optional social gatherings on Friday and Saturday evenings, and a sightseeing ride around Savannah Sunday morning. We hope you’ll make a full weekend of it!
